Can you manage in Japan with only English?

Is 14 days enough?
Enough for Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka and two day trips without rushing. The route is built in city blocks, so days 1-7 stand alone as a complete trip.
What does a day actually cost?
Between 6,000 and 11,000 yen depending on the day - hotel, transport and food included. Every day carries its own budget line.
